THE WINDRUSH GENERATION

This group is commonly referred to as the Windrush Generation but includes anyone who came to the UK from commonwealth countries between 1948 and 1971.

As the Carribean was, at the time, a part of the British commonwealth, those who arrived were automatically British subjects and free to permanently live and work in the UK.

The Windrush Scandal began to surface in 2017 after it emerged that hundreds of commonwealth citizens, many of whom were from the "Windrush Generation" had been wrongly detained, deported and denied legal rights.

This service has been inspired by the death of Paulette Wilson, who was a resident of Wolverhampton and one of the co-campaigners whose story brought the "Windrush Scandal" to the attention of the media.

After Paulette's experience with the Home Office, she sough to raise awareness and to campaign to end the Home Office's "Hostile Environment".
